RAHANA – According to Shahidi’s family, the journalist sounded extremely distressed during the phone call and told them she is being kept in a Ward 209 cell she shares with another prisoner.
Shahidi was taken into custody to serve her 6-year jail term, and as such should have been detained in a general ward and not in the security ward 209. She was arrested after being summoned to the Intelligence Ministry one day after her prison sentence was upheld by the Appeals Court.
Shahidi’s family and her lawyer found out one day after her arrest that the journalist’s verdict had been upheld by the Appeals Court.
Shahidi worked for Karroubi’s campaign during the June presidential election. She was arrested shortly after the election and spent 4 months in Evin of which 3 were in solitary, before being released on $90,000 bail pending appeal.
