Death Sentence Upheld for Mohammad Amin Valian

2 , March , 2010

The Appeals Court has upheld the death sentence of Mohammad Amin Valian, a 20-year old Damghan University student.

RAHANA – Mohammad Amin Valian was initially sentenced to death based on remarks made by Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, who had declared that Ashura protesters must be treated and tried as Mohareb. The court considered the remarks as a binding religious Fatwa and sentenced the 20-year old to death
According to irangreenvoice, the decision has been upheld by the Appeals Court and can be enforced at any time.
Last month, the Tehran Prosecutor announced that one of the 9 Ashura detainees had been sentenced to death. Mohammad Amin Valian is a member of the Islamic Student Association of Damghan University and was a Mousavi campaign worker in Damghan during the June presidential election. He was born to a religious family and has no history of illegal activities. Valian has never had links to the groups considered to be enemies by the Islamic Republic and was arrested on Ashura for having a stone in his hand.
RAHANA would like to point out to the readers that the news has not yet been confirmed by the Judiciary or other official sources.
